It is not possible to consider the historical development of making carpets and Turkish history separately. The sympathy of Turks towards the carpets has started in the central asia and it continues in many places in Anatolia today. One of these places is Aksaray, Taspinar.

One of the qualification that Taspinar Carpet has protected till today is that, the strings of “ weft-cotton sheeting and knot” are completely woolen. In general, natural paints are used in coloring the strings.

Taspnar Carpets are woven in types called: Base, head, double somya ( a kind of sofa ), pillow, mattress, player rug, saddle-bag and saddle-cover. Recently, mostly pillow and the double carpets called the side carpet are woven.

Taspinar is a small hamlet in the carpet weaving areas of the Aksaray.Taspinar produces excellent carpet of a thick pile, knotted in high quality wool.  They have a prodominanatly blue and red field enlivened  by delicate motifs in lighter shades. The yarn is dyed with natural vegetable dyes by the caucasian methods. Taspinar Carpet are among the most beautiful of all Anatolian carpets. In the old Taspinar’s Carpets the Persian influence can be seen which are plant figures and formal design prevent this unusual mixture from this pleasing the eye.Well cared for,old Taspinars have a wonderful silk like quality. As the lanolin in the wool rises to the surface it gives the pile a soft rich velvety sheen. Now Taspinars are made in the same rich colours as old ones, but the designs are becoming more regular in recent years . The knot density of Taspinar  Carpets are 140.000 per square meter.

Typical to central Anatolia Taspinar Carpets have radiant colours in beautiful harmony.

AKSARAY KİLİMS

Located in an ancient region where human settlements dating to the Neolithic Age (8000-5500 BC) were excavated, Aksaray province produces kilims with very varied designs likened by some  experts to those woven in Konya, so much so that in some classifications a kilim’s provenance may be listed as “Konya/Aksaray” While its proximity to Konya (and Niğde) probably has some bearing on the perceived similarities, a deeper acquaintance with Aksaray’s past may help us to recognize some marks of distinctiveness in its kilims.
